Cleanliness – Health 1959

This poster displays an everyday scene in a rural area, where women are cleaning their houses and the windows while laundry is drying outside and a man is tidying up outside with a barrow.  On a practical level, cleanliness is thus related to hygiene and disease prevention. Washing is one way of achieving physical cleanliness. Cleaning procedures are of the utmost importance in many forms of manufacturing. Since the germ theory of disease, cleanliness has come to mean an effort to remove germs and other hazardous materials.
